Which are some prominent gods of Ancient Egypt?

 

The Ancient Egyptians had many gods and goddesses- over 2000, in-fact! Unlike other ancient cultures, whose gods looked somewhat like people, most Egyptian gods had an animal head. 'Ra' was the most important God. He was the lord of all the gods and was usually shown in human form with a falcon head, crowned with the sun disc encircled by a sacred cobra. The king of gods was Amun, and when Amun was combined with the Sun God Ra, he was even more powerful. He was then called Amun-Ra.

Bastet, the daughter of Sun God Ra, was the Goddess of Protection and of household entertainment. Thoth was the God of Wisdom, writing and knowledge, while Sobek was the God of the Nile. Horus was the God of Sky, Geb was the Earth God, and Tefnut was the Goddess of Rain. Osiris was an ancient Egyptian God of Growing Things.

 

 Sekmet was the Goddess of War and Battle while Anubis was God of Embalmingand the Dead. The Egyptians believed that after you died you went to a new world, and so they put into your grave everything you would need in the next world.

Why is the civilization of Ancient Egypt awe-inspiring? The civilization of Ancient Egypt lasted for over three thousand years. When did this civilization begin? Well, farmers first settled in Egypt along the River Nile around 5000 BC. Egypt is mainly made up of hot deserts and receives little rainfall. Without the River Nile, the whole area would be just a barren desert. All of Egypt depended on River Nile for water, food, and transportation. The Nile would flood each year, coating the land on either side of the river with, thick black mud. This mud was ideal for growing crops. In short, Nile provides the ancient Egyptians with fertile land which helped them to grow their crops and raise their animals. Halley's Comet Halley's Comet or Comet Halley , officially designated 1P/Halley , is a short-period comet visible from the earth every 75-76 years . Halley is the only known short-period comet that is regularly visible to the naked eye from the earth, and the only naked-eye comet that might appear twice in a human lifetime. Halley last appeared in the inner part in the solar system in 1986 and will next appear in mid-2061 to 2062 .  Halley's return to the inner solar system has been observed and recorded by the astronomers since 240BC . Clear records of the comet's appearance were made by Chinese, Babylonian and medieval European chronicles , but, at those times were not recognised as appearances of the same object. The comet's periodicity was first determined in 1705 by English astronomer Edmond Halley , after whom it is now named.

The Gutenberg Bible

                 THE GUTENBERG BIBLE What is the importance of the printing of the Gutenberg Bible? The invention of Gutenberg printing press is considered to be one of the most important inventions of all time. In 1455,  Gutenberg demonstrated the power of the printing press by selling copies of a tow-volume Bible, known as  Gutenberg Bible. Each pages of the book has book had 42 lines. The paper was handmade, and each page contain a watermark. At first, 180 copies were made, most of them on paper, although some were printed on vellum, a kind of parchment. The printed Bible proved quite popular, and the stock was quickly sold out. The Gutenberg Bible was the first major book printed using mass produced movable type. This made it significantly cheaper than handwritten Bible. The Gutenberg Bible signalled the start of Gutenberg Revolution, which let to the age of the Printed Books.
