Tigers

Description:

Tigers are a category of cats. They are the largest of all the cats. They are powerful hunters that eat pigs, deer, and even young elephants. Sadly, their numbers are falling because their habitat is being destroyed and people are killing them for their fur and bones.

Sharp Teeth:

The pointed teeth near the front of the tiger's mouth are about 2 inches (5.08 cm) long. They are called canine teeth. Tigers use their canine teeth to stab and grip their prey.

Siberian Tigers:

Siberian tigers are the largest of all the tigers. They are found in the mountains along the border between Russia and China. Siberian tigers have a thicker coat than other tigers because they have to live in very cold conditions.

Bengal Tigers:

Bengal's tigers have white fur with pale stripes. Male Bengal tigers are about 10 feet (3.05 meters) long i.e. 3.048 m long and can weigh nearly 500 pounds i.e. 226.796 kg or the weight of three adult humans.

Tiger Cubs:

Female tigers give birth to two or three cubs at the same time.   The cubs stay with their mothers for about 18 months while they learn how to hunt.

FACT TIME:

1. Nearly half of all the tigers left in wild are Bengal tigers.

2. In wild, tigers live up to 15 years. In zoos, they will live longer.
