What is the importance of the printing of the Gutenberg Bible?



The invention of Gutenberg printing press is considered to be one of the most important inventions of all time.

In 1455, Gutenberg demonstrated the power of the printing press by selling copies of a tow-volume Bible, known as Gutenberg Bible. Each pages of the book has book had 42 lines. The paper was handmade, and each page contain a watermark. At first, 180 copies were made, most of them on paper, although some were printed on vellum, a kind of parchment. The printed Bible proved quite popular, and the stock was quickly sold out.

The Gutenberg Bible was the first major book printed using mass produced movable type. This made it significantly cheaper than handwritten Bible. The Gutenberg Bible signalled the start of Gutenberg Revolution, which let to the age of the Printed Books.
